Prada’s leading shareholder, Patrizio Bertelli, stated he was “very cautious” about making acquisitions. However, he added that the group is ready to look at potential opportunities.
Chairman Bertelli, who controls Prada with his wife Miuccia Prada, said in an interview with La Repubblica daily, “Relaunching a brand is difficult, in the early 2000s we bought Jil Sander and Helmut Lang and we made strategic mistakes.”
Reports linked Prada to possible deals for Versace and Jimmy Choo.
Acquiring Versace would create a more resilient company with a broader base, but reviving the brand could take years and hurt short-term profits.
Luxury group CEO Andrea Guerra suggested openness to opportunities on Tuesday, but he gave no details of potential tie-ups.
