TASS news agency reported on Monday that a Moscow court found Alphabet’s Google guilty. The court said Google disclosed personal data of Russian servicemen who died in Ukraine, citing court documents.
TASS reported the court documents stated a YouTube video revealed information. The video disclosed losses of Russian servicemen in Ukraine and their personal data.
Russia has ordered foreign technology platforms to remove content deemed illegal for several years. Russia considers “fakes” about the war in Ukraine to be illegal content. They issue small fines when they see failures to comply.
Google did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment outside business hours.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin accused Google in December. He said Google was “a tool used by the U.S. government headed then by former President Joe Biden, to score political points.”
