On Wednesday, China’s Geely Holding Group (GEELY.UL) announced that it will introduce several hybrid vehicles with its next-generation, more fuel-efficient engine. These vehicles are set to debut in the first half of 2019.
According to a product certificate from CATARC Huacheng Certification Co., a government-owned company, Geely’s engine achieves up to 46.1% thermal efficiency. This accomplishment highlights the engine’s impressive performance in terms of energy utilization.
According to Geely, this was one of the highest in the world and would increase driving range while using less gasoline.
The new models will be introduced for the Lynk & Co brand and the Galaxy series of Geely Auto (0175.HK).
Due to their low cost, plug-in hybrids are experiencing the fastest rate of growth in China. Moreover, competition in this market is becoming increasingly intense.
On Tuesday, BYD unveiled two hybrid vehicles with its latest hybrid technology; they start at 99,800 yuan ($13,800).
According to BYD, the new hybrid technology has a 46.06% thermal efficiency and allows for fuel usage on drained batteries of 2.9 liters per 100 kilometers under the New European Driving Cycle tests.
