New York Fashion Week Leans Into American Legacy Brand Revival

New York Fashion Week opens next week featuring a roster of legacy American brands that continue to capture Gen Z interest, offering a bright spot amid a broader slowdown across the global luxury market. The schedule launches Wednesday with runway shows from Ralph Lauren and Coach, both of which have posted robust sales driven by younger buyers in Asia and North America gravitating toward iconic items like Ralph Lauren’s updated polo shirts and Coach’s Tabby bags. Tommy Hilfiger also returns to the lineup following a brief hiatus, bolstered by a high-profile collaboration with NFL star Travis Kelce.

Despite the momentum among select heritage labels, performance across the U.S. premium sector remains mixed. While luxury spending in Europe and the Middle East continues to face pressure from geopolitical tensions and declining tourism, consulting firm Bain & Company notes that U.S. growth—supported by domestic brands and youth spending—is helping offset international headwinds. Other notable highlights among the roughly 70 scheduled presentations include Henry Zankov’s debut collection for Diane von Furstenberg, a debut show by London-based designer Conner Ives, and runway showcases from Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein, and Thom Browne.
