Standard Chartered Launches Institutional Bitcoin, Ether Spot Trading in UAE

Standard Chartered has expanded its institutional Bitcoin and Ether spot trading capabilities into the UAE via Standard Chartered DIFC, making it the first Global Systemically Important Bank (G-SIB) to provide live spot crypto execution in the region. By integrating execution with its existing custody solution launched in September 2024, the bank expands its regulated digital asset proposition for regional institutional clients.

The platform enables eligible institutions to execute deliverable BTC/USD and ETH/USD spot trades directly through Standard Chartered’s existing electronic foreign exchange channels. Clients retain flexibility in trade settlement, with the choice to utilize third-party custodians or Standard Chartered’s internal custody service. Executive leadership emphasized that the launch leverages the UAE’s clear regulatory framework and the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) as a springboard for institutional adoption.

The regional expansion builds on Standard Chartered’s initial rollout in July 2025 via its UK branch, where it first established deliverable spot crypto trading for institutional investors. The UAE launch reinforces the bank’s strategy to embed digital assets into its global markets architecture while providing institutional-grade custody, execution, and governance under a unified banking framework.
