Taiwanese prosecutors in Keelung have indicted nine individuals—including personnel from local subsidiaries of Nvidia and Super Micro Computer—over their roles in illegally exporting restricted AI servers to China. The scheme involved falsifying end-user documentation to claim that 130 Super Micro servers powered by Nvidia B300 chips would be operated in a Taiwanese facility. Prosecutors state the defendants acted with full awareness of strict company export protocols, engaging in the plot for financial gain and circumventing U.S. export restrictions that require explicit licensing for high-end AI chip transfers to China.

Of the targeted 130 servers, 74 were successfully delivered to Chinese entities via direct shipments and routing through Indonesia, Japan, and Hong Kong. Customs officials in Taiwan intercepted the remaining 56 units before they could be shipped under the guise of an export to Japan. Eight defendants face charges of document forgery and breach of trust, while a ninth individual was charged with siphoning funds from an involved distributor. Authorities highlighted that such illicit exports inflate corporate compliance costs and undermine Taiwan’s national reputation amid its broader effort to prevent advanced technology from reaching Beijing.
