In a tweet published on Weibo on Wednesday, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that he is now in Shanghai.
Cook did not reveal what additional plans he had for this China vacation. Instead, he simply stated that he spent the morning eating a native breakfast and strolling around Shanghai’s famed Bund river with Chinese actor Zheng Kai.
His visit coincides with the iPhone maker’s announcement on Thursday. Additionally, the announcement reveals that it will open a new retail location in the center of the Chinese financial district. Apple is now facing declining iPhone sales in China as well as increased competition from local rivals like Huawei.
China is Apple’s third-largest sales market, and Cook visited the country at least twice last year. Around the same period last year, he visited Beijing. While there, he attended the China Development Forum and visited an Apple store.
