Egyptian exports to China have surged significantly in recent months, driven by a growing influx of Chinese capital into the country’s industrial sector. Over 3,000 Chinese firms have invested more than $8 billion across Egyptian industries and strategic development zones, focusing largely on manufacturing sectors such as textiles and chemicals. Speaking at a business forum in Beijing, Egyptian Investment and Foreign Trade Ministry Undersecretary Abdul Aziz El-Sharif highlighted that these investments align with Cairo’s broader push to expand economic zones and position Egypt as a regional manufacturing hub.
This growing industrial footprint has led to a sharp rise in trade flows. Egypt’s exports to China expanded by approximately 42% in 2025 to reach $819 million, with growth accelerating by 90% during the first four months of 2026. However, the bilateral trade relationship remains heavily skewed in China’s favor. Chinese exports to Egypt reached nearly $20 billion last year, and they continued to make up the vast majority of the $7.5 billion in total two-way trade recorded in early 2026. El-Sharif emphasized that the strong presence of Chinese business reflects deep confidence in Egypt’s potential to serve as a vital industrial and logistical gateway to markets across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
