Revolut has achieved a major milestone in its expansion strategy, securing conditional approval for a national bank charter from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. The decision brings the London-headquartered fintech closer to its projected 2027 market launch, though full operational rollout remains contingent on additional green lights from the Federal Reserve, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and final OCC authorization. Once fully approved, the institution intends to deliver a broad suite of financial products directly to American consumers, including FDIC-insured deposit accounts, credit cards, lending services, and integrated digital asset capabilities spanning stablecoins and cryptocurrencies.
The regulatory breakthrough in the United States forms part of a broader, aggressive global expansion push throughout 2026. Alongside its U.S. progress, Revolut has accelerated its footprint across Latin America by launching Revolut Bank Mexico and advancing licensing efforts across Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Argentina. On the international stage, the platform has secured banking licenses in the United Kingdom, France, and Australia, alongside payment authorizations in the United Arab Emirates. With ongoing license applications progressing in markets such as South Africa, the fintech remains on track to surpass 100 million global customers by mid-2027.
