In response, global crude prices climbed to near six-week highs, with Brent futures reaching $93.24 per barrel after touching an intraday peak of $95.47. Meanwhile, U.S. gasoline prices surged past $4.00 per gallon, adding political pressure in Washington ahead of the upcoming midterms.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran lacks serious intent regarding peace talks, though both the U.S. and key mediator Pakistan remain open to diplomatic avenues. Pakistan condemned the recent shipping disruptions while confirming its continued mediation efforts. Concurrently, U.S. military operations expanded into central and western Iran, accompanied by warnings from President Donald Trump of strikes against Iranian infrastructure should shipping be targeted.
