Nicole Kidman stars as the matriarch of an affluent American family with many secrets in a new Netflix miniseries. She brings the murder mystery “The Perfect Couple” to the small screen.
Eve Hewson plays zookeeper Amelia Sacks in the six-part series, which is based on Elin Hilderbrand’s 2018 novel. Sacks is getting married into one of the wealthiest families on Nantucket.
Murder mystery author Greer Garrison Winbury has planned a spectacular wedding at the family house for the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Kidman plays the role of her disapproving prospective mother-in-law.
On the day of the wedding, though, a body washes up on the beach, revealing secrets and sparking an inquiry.
At the UK premiere of the series on Monday in London, Kidman told Reuters, “I grew up on (murder mysteries) and… I haven’t seen one like this for a while, so it was really exciting to be a part of it and to be able to produce it as well.”
The Oscar winner claimed that the part was “so different” from the sensual drama “Babygirl.” She debuted “Babygirl” at the Venice Film Festival this past week.
“(Greer is) strong and, and powerful and that was exciting to play… I’m always on this quest to find things that I haven’t done or have different experiences,” she remarked.
As the patriarch of the family, Tag, Liev Schreiber admitted that he needed “some convincing” to portray the part.
“But it worked out once I talked to Nicole Kidman and Susanne Bier, the director, for about two weeks. I just realized how deliciously dark and wonderful this was going to be,” the man stated.
Hewson’s persona, meanwhile, is the outsider.
“I was a little bit jealous of the Winburys (family characters) just because they have amazing one liners,” she said. “I was the grounded one… the serious one.”
