New board members for OpenAI will be announced in March, per The Washington Post

According to a source familiar with the situation, OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, plans to appoint several new board members in March. The information was reported by the Washington Post.

OpenAI

In November, the former board of the Microsoft-backed company fired CEO Sam Altman, initiating an impasse. The move, set to occur, would finally put an end to this deadlock.

However, just a few days later, Altman returned. OpenAI then announced a new initial board chaired by former Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor.

Since then, OpenAI’s new board has actively searched for six members with expertise ranging from technology to safety and policy.

OpenAI did not promptly respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

In November, Altman announced that OpenAI’s board would include Microsoft as a non-voting observer.

Reuters previously reported that OpenAI investors were unlikely to receive appointments to the non-profit’s board, according to sources.

Altman, co-founder Greg Brockman, chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, and Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo were part of OpenAI’s previous board. Additionally, entrepreneur Tasha McCauley and Helen Toner, director of strategy at Georgetown’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology, were also members.

The Wall Street Journal previously reported that the Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating whether Altman’s internal communications misled the company’s investors. Subsequently, this has raised concerns about potential regulatory scrutiny.
