According to Downdetector.com, Instagram, owned by Meta Platforms (META.O), appeared to be back online. The outage occurred on Thursday, causing the photo-sharing app’s services to be unavailable for more than three hours.
Around 2230 GMT, over 5,000 users reported difficulties using Instagram in the US. According to statistics from the outage tracking website, the number of outages has decreased to about 400. The majority of the reported issues were related to app login difficulties.
In early March, a technical problem caused both Instagram and Facebook to go down for more than two hours. At its height, over 550,000 users reported disturbances on Facebook, while over 92,000 users reported the same on Instagram.
By compiling status updates from many sources, including user-submitted problems on its platform, Downdetector keeps track of outages.
A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by Meta.
