King Abdullah of Jordan takes part in the Gaza aid airdrop

On Sunday, Jordan’s King Abdullah actively participated in an airdrop of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

This action underscored Jordan’s significant role in pressuring Israel to lift restrictions on initiatives aimed at addressing illness, hunger, and starvation in the war-torn enclave. The engagement further emphasizes Jordan’s commitment to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In a video released by state-owned Al Mamlaka, the monarch, dressed in military gear, is seen on board a plane. This occurred during the Jordanian air force’s latest mission to deliver urgent medical supplies to field hospitals in the enclave. According to official media, the most recent airdrop occurred on Tuesday.

It has carried out 11 airdrops, including at least two with the French and Dutch air forces, to deliver medical supplies.

Princess Salma, Abdullah’s second daughter and an air force pilot, took part in an airdrop in December.

Leaving on Thursday for a tour of major Western capitals, the king, who has been vocal in calling for an end to Israel’s campaign, is scheduled to meet with US President Joe Biden in Washington on Monday. During the meeting, he plans to lobby for an immediate ceasefire.

Officials report that Abdullah will urge Washington to exert pressure on Israel, seeking the removal of barriers hindering aid delivery to Palestinians. They argue that these obstacles exacerbate the plight of over 2 million residents in the enclave, increasing the risk of famine.

US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken visited Amman last month. He praised Jordan’s “role and leadership in providing life-saving aid to Palestinian civilians in Gaza.”
