IG Metall, Germany’s leading union, announced Friday that wage negotiations in October will seek a 7% salary increase from Volkswagen.

The leading industrial union in Germany, stated in a statement on Friday that during wage negotiations in October, the company will be asked to pay Volkswagen an additional 7% of its total salary over a 12-month period.

The union’s demand reflects its commitment to securing better compensation for its members amidst ongoing economic challenges.

Negotiations focus on a collective bargaining agreement for 120,000 workers at six locations in Lower Saxony and Saxony Anhalt.

This includes Wolfsburg, the home of Volkswagen, according to IG Metall.

IG Metall earlier this week advised its members to also demand a 7% raise in a wider round of collective bargaining for the mechanical engineering sector.

This round does not include VW and seeks a raise well above the current inflation rate.
