Coinbase Chooses Abu Dhabi for International Tokenization Hub

Coinbase has secured a Financial Services Permission from Abu Dhabi Global Market’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority to establish an international tokenization hub in Abu Dhabi. The license enables Coinbase to arrange investment deals and provide custody services, serving as a foundational step in launching tokenized securities aimed at democratizing access to global capital markets for underserved populations.
Under the regulatory oversight of the FSRA, tokenized securities registered in ADGM will be fully backed by underlying shares. Token holders will receive standard shareholder rights, including dividends and voting privileges. The system eliminates the need for traditional brokerage accounts or correspondent banking relationships, allowing participation directly via crypto wallets while maintaining regulatory compliance through continuous sanctions screening and wallet-level asset control capabilities.
The establishment of the tokenization hub reinforces Coinbase’s broader strategic commitment to the UAE, where it is building two of its largest international ventures outside the United States. Alongside its global derivatives hub in Dubai, the Abu Dhabi facility highlights the region’s progressive regulatory framework for blockchain-enabled capital markets and tokenized assets.
