Asia Fintech Funding Hits $2.3B in Q2 2026 Amid Global Deal Slowdown

Asia’s financial technology (fintech) sector raised $2.3 billion across 116 transactions in Q2 2026, marking a notable increase from $1.7 billion in Q1 despite a general slowdown in deal activity across major markets. According to CB Insights, Asia’s share of global fintech deals held steady at 19%. Worldwide, total fintech funding fell 20% quarter-over-quarter to $11.7 billion, while global transaction volume dropped 25% to 726 deals—the lowest quarterly total in over four years. However, the year-to-date median deal size increased 19% to $5.1 million, indicating that investors favored higher-conviction bets over volume.

The United States maintained its position as the leading fintech hub, capturing $5.1 billion across 273 deals and accounting for 45% of total global deal volume, down from $6.7 billion in Q1. Europe followed with $2.5 billion across 154 deals, representing 25% of global activity. Capital flows to Latin America rose to $1.1 billion across 24 deals, while Canada reached $200 million across 13 transactions and Oceania captured approximately $100 million across eight deals. Conversely, funding in Africa dropped to $72 million across 13 deals.

Digital banking emerged as a key bright spot, with sector funding surging 96% quarter-over-quarter to $2.6 billion despite a 4% decline in transaction count. Nearly half (49%) of total digital banking capital was concentrated in three large rounds: Ramp ($750 million), Airwallex ($320 million), and Mercury ($200 million). Unicorn creation slowed, with only four startups achieving billion-dollar valuations during the quarter—Digital Asset ($2 billion), Rogo ($2 billion), Slash ($1.4 billion), and Nesto ($1.1 billion)—three of which are U.S.-based.

Exit activity mirrored the broader downturn, with only four initial public offerings completed during the quarter—a 64% decline from Q1 and the lowest quarterly figure in more than four years. Mergers and acquisitions slowed to 203 transactions, headlined by Interros Holding’s $1.1 billion takeover of Russian neobank Tochka.
