Mortgages account for the bulk of lending at Australia’s four largest banks, according to a report by Moody’s Ratings.
Among the major lenders, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Westpac have the highest exposure to home loans, with mortgages making up about 70% of their total loan books.
National Australia Bank has the lowest share of mortgage lending at 54%, while ANZ’s mortgage exposure stands at around 60%, Moody’s said.
Overall, residential home loans—considered lower risk—represent roughly 64% of gross loans across the four major Australian banks.
