Google (Alphabet Inc.) is planning its largest investment yet in India, committing $10 billion to establish a huge data center and Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
According to the state government, Google will construct a 1-gigawatt data center campus in the port city of Visakhapatnam. This facility will integrate AI infrastructure, large-scale energy sources, and an expanded fiber-optic network. A formal agreement for the project is expected to be signed soon.
The significant investment reflects the intense competition among major tech companies, who are heavily funding new data center infrastructure to meet the surging global demand for AI services. Andhra Pradesh’s IT minister, Nara Lokesh, commented on the strategic importance of the deal, saying that such initiatives provide a “strategic advantage” in a time where “data is the new oil.”
