Citi appoints former Nomura executive for Japan investment banking leadership.


Citi Appoints New Co-Heads for Japan Investment Banking

Citi has announced the appointment of Akira Kiyota and Taiji Nagasaka as co-heads of investment banking for Japan, effective October 1, 2025.

Kiyota joins Citi from Nomura, where he was a senior managing director and global head of mergers and acquisitions since 2022. He brings over three decades of experience in investment banking, specializing in M&A, healthcare, and consumer sectors globally, with previous stints at J.P. Morgan Securities and Sanwa Bank.

Nagasaka, already a managing director at Citi, currently leads IB products and ECM for Citi in Japan. With over 20 years of experience advising Japanese clients on capital markets and M&A, Nagasaka joined Citi in 2022 from Mizuho Securities, where he headed ECM. He also has experience at SMBC Nikko Securities Inc.

Both Kiyota and Nagasaka will report to Jan Metzger, head of investment banking for Japan, Asia North & Australia, and Asia South, as well as Robert Nakamura, Citi Country Officer and banking head for Japan.

Masuo Fukuda, who is currently Vice Chair of Citi Japan and head of investment banking for Japan, will transition to a new role as Vice Chair for Japan and Asia North investment banking, in addition to his existing Citi Japan Vice Chair responsibilities.
