CIMB Group Appoints Datuk Syed Zaid Albar as New Group Chairman
CIMB Group Holdings Berhad has announced the appointment of Datuk Syed Zaid Albar as its new group chairman, effective July 20, 2025. He will take over from Tan Sri Mohd Nasir Ahmad, who is set to retire from the board on July 18.
In addition to his role as chairman, Albar will also join the bank as an independent non-executive director starting June 18.
Albar brings extensive experience to the position, with four decades as a lawyer specializing in financial services and corporate advisory. He is also a co-founder of the law firm Albar & Partners. From 2018 to 2022, he served as the executive chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia, stepping away from his legal practice during that period.
