With the choice of Vance, the 39-year-old author of the critically acclaimed “Hillbilly Elegy,” the senator from Ohio transformed into one of Trump’s staunchest allies, having previously been an ardent opponent.
Vance, who enjoys political sparring as much as Trump, may galvanize conservative Republicans. However, it remains unclear if he will increase the ticket’s appeal to independent and moderate voters who are apprehensive about another Trump term.
On Monday, Democrats attacked Vance for opposing abortion rights. This position has proven detrimental to Republicans, especially after Biden referred to Vance as a “clone” of Trump.
During his Monday night interview on Fox News, Vance stated that he agreed with Trump’s assertion. He emphasized that it is the right of each state to determine whether or not to allow abortions.
Public opinion surveys indicate that Trump and Biden are still in a close race, despite Trump’s advantage in a number of swing states that might decide the election.
