Qatar Digital Payment Volume Jumps 40 Percent to Exceed 27.5 Billion Dollars

Qatar’s financial technology sector experienced unprecedented growth in July 2026, propelled by a surge in digital account-to-account transfers, rapid adoption of instant payment platforms, and steady point-of-sale expansion. Official statistics from the Qatar Central Bank indicate that the total value of electronic payment transactions reached 106.814 billion Qatari riyals, representing a 40 percent year-on-year increase from the 76.051 billion riyals recorded in July 2025. Aggregate transaction volume across the national payment infrastructure expanded by 23 percent over the same period to reach 72.487 million transactions, reflecting a structural shift toward a fully integrated digital economy.

The primary engine behind this financial transition was the Tahweel direct account-to-account transfer system, which saw total transaction values jump 63 percent to 77.051 billion riyals, while transfer volumes surged 170 percent. Instant payment systems also posted substantial gains, with the Fawran platform more than doubling its transaction value to 6.802 billion riyals alongside a 67 percent increase in mobile wallet transaction values. Conversely, traditional cash usage continued to contract, evidenced by a decline in total ATM withdrawal values from 12.661 billion riyals to 10.023 billion riyals, as consumers increasingly favored smaller, higher-frequency digital and point-of-sale transactions.
