PayNet and Ant International Join Forces to Expand Cross-Border QR Payments

Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) and Ant International have signed a new agreement to expand their partnership. This new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will allow Malaysians traveling abroad to use their local e-wallets and banking apps for payments through DuitNow QR.

This is made possible by connecting DuitNow QR to Ant International’s global wallet gateway, Alipay+. The partnership provides Malaysian travelers with access to Alipay+’s network of 100 million merchants worldwide.

The agreement focuses on four key areas:

  • Promoting tourism through cross-border digital payments.

  • Enhancing fraud protection.

  • Developing talent.

  • Advancing sustainability.

This new collaboration builds on their previous agreement from August 2023, which allowed 15 international payment apps using Alipay+ to be accepted by over 2.6 million DuitNow QR merchants in Malaysia. The expanded partnership now makes the DuitNow QR system globally accessible for Malaysian users.
