Nvidia, a leading chipmaker, and SoftBank Corp, the telecommunications arm of SoftBank Group, announced on Wednesday that they have piloted the world’s first artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G telecom network.
This network can run AI and 5G workloads simultaneously, a capability referred to as an artificial intelligence radio access network (AI-RAN).
The network has various applications, including remote support for autonomous vehicles and control of robotics.
At an AI event, SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son stated, “Every other telco will have to follow this new wave.” He spoke alongside Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Huang mentioned that SoftBank was the first company to receive the new Blackwell chip designs.
SoftBank is now incorporating these designs into the AI supercomputer it is developing to create its own generative AI model.
