Nigeria has voiced its continued dedication to enhancing its trade and economic alliance with China, marking a year of significant growth in their bilateral relationship throughout 2025. This progress stems from the decision made by Presidents Bola Tinubu and Xi Jinping in late 2024 to upgrade their diplomatic ties to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.”
Throughout the past year, the two countries have maintained steady high-level interactions across political and technical sectors. These efforts have solidified institutional frameworks, paving the way for more organized and beneficial collaboration. The partnership has flourished in several critical areas, including large-scale infrastructure projects, industrial growth, technology sharing, and cultural exchange.
Nigeria emphasized that its approach to China remains rooted in traditional foreign policy values, such as the respect for national sovereignty and the “One-China” principle. This diplomatic foundation ensures that their cooperation remains stable and aligned with international standards.
As the focus shifts toward 2026, Nigeria intends to push the partnership toward even more practical and impactful results. Key goals for the coming year include diversifying the Nigerian economy, improving human capital, and ensuring long-term sustainability—all of which support Nigeria’s broader national development plans.
