According to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, Iraq decided on Sunday to provide 10 million liters of fuel to the Gaza Strip as a show of support for the Palestinian people.
In a statement, the prime minister said that Iraq has also committed to taking in injured Palestinians from Gaza and treating them in both public and private facilities.
Hospitals, water systems, bakeries, and humanitarian efforts in the area have all been severely impacted by the gasoline shortage.
According to Israeli counts, the Gaza conflict started on October 7 when Hamas, the group in charge of Gaza, deployed fighters into Israel, murdering 1,200 people—mostly civilians—and taking 253 prisoners.
According to Palestinian health authorities, Israel’s military assault on Gaza has resulted in at least 33,175 Palestinian deaths and 75,886 injuries since October 7.
