HSBC has established its second Quantum Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Singapore, following the first in the UK. This new regional center will focus on finding real-world applications for quantum technologies within the financial services sector.
The Singapore CoE’s initial priorities center on immediate infrastructure security, specifically exploring:
Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC).
Quantum Key Distribution (QKD).
Ensuring long-term infrastructure resilience.
Beyond security, the center will investigate how quantum computing can be leveraged to enhance areas like financial modeling, optimization, and machine learning. HSBC intends for the CoE to act as a crucial platform for engaging regulators, researchers, and fintech partners across the ecosystem, citing its current participation in the industry-wide QKD sandbox led by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
