Gunmen Charged Over Bondi Beach Hanukkah Shooting That Killed Fifteen

Australian authorities have laid multiple murder and terrorism related charges against the men accused of carrying out a deadly shooting at a Hanukkah gathering near Sydney’s Bondi Beach, an attack that left fifteen people dead and dozens more injured.

Police said a 24 year old man has been charged with a total of 59 offences, including 15 counts of murder, numerous counts of attempted murder and a terrorism offence. The accused remains under police guard in hospital after sustaining injuries during the incident and is expected to appear before a court by video link once medically cleared.

Investigators allege the accused carried out the attack alongside his 50 year old father, who was shot and killed by police at the scene. Authorities said the pair opened fire on a large crowd attending a Hanukkah celebration, triggering chaos as people attempted to flee the beachfront area. Police have described the attack as ideologically motivated and say counter terrorism units are continuing to examine how it was planned and whether others were involved.

The shooting has been described as one of the deadliest acts of mass violence in Australia in recent decades. Law enforcement agencies have increased security around Jewish institutions nationwide as a precaution, while intelligence officials review potential warning signs that may have preceded the attack.

Funerals for the victims began this week across Sydney, with mourners gathering under heightened security to honour those killed. Community leaders and elected officials attended several services, paying tribute to victims that included families, children and prominent members of the Jewish community.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the attack and said those responsible would face the full force of the law. He pledged stronger action against antisemitism and violent extremism, adding that the government would review public safety measures to prevent similar attacks in the future.

As investigations continue, authorities say the focus remains on ensuring justice for the victims while addressing broader concerns about radicalisation, community safety and the threat of extremist violence.
