Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait Appoints New Group CEO
Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait (ABK) has announced Giel-Jan M. Van Der Tol as its new Group CEO. He takes over from Abdulla Al Sumait, who has been serving as the acting head and will now return to his role as Deputy Group CEO.
Van Der Tol brings extensive international banking experience to ABK, having spent 21 years at ABN AMRO Bank in the Netherlands in various executive capacities. His career highlights include serving as Global Head HR of the Global Markets Division, and later as COO of Saudi Hollandi Bank (SHB) in Riyadh, where he eventually became CEO and Managing Director. He also held leadership positions as Managing Director of Tier One Capital in the Netherlands and CEO of Dubai Bank in the UAE. Following Dubai Bank’s merger with Emirates NBD Bank in 2012, he joined Emirates NBD’s Group Executive Committee, first as Global Head Wholesale Banking, and subsequently as CEO and Managing Director of Emirates NBD Bank Egypt.
