European Summer Trips: ANZ Predicts $280 Million in Customer Spending

ANZ Predicts Strong European Travel Spending This Summer

The Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) anticipates its customers will spend a hefty $280 million in Europe during June, July, and August, marking a 10% increase from 2024. This projected surge follows an 11% rise in hotel and airline bookings to Europe between January and May 2025, indicating a growing desire among ANZ customers to travel there this year.

“We’re seeing strong growth in early planning activity and expect spending to climb 10% this season,” said Yiken Yang, ANZ managing director of everyday banking. While this won’t quite hit the $313 million peak of 2023, Yang noted that 2025 is shaping up to be a strong recovery for the travel sector.

Asia and Pacific Destinations Also Gaining Popularity

Beyond Europe, ANZ has also observed increasing interest in destinations across Asia and the Pacific. Yang highlighted that “Aussies continue to switch out their winter with new travel experiences, with places like Japan and Thailand climbing as holiday hot spots.”

Interestingly, European travel for ANZ customers dipped in 2024, while spending in non-European destinations rose by 3% last year. Countries like Indonesia, New Zealand, Thailand, and Japan saw significant growth. Japan, in particular, experienced a remarkable 32.4% year-on-year increase, securing its spot as one of the top 10 travel destinations for ANZ customers.
