Novak Djokovic advanced to the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters after defeating Jaume Munar with a score of $6-3, 5-7, 6-2 on Tuesday, overcoming significant physical challenges. The 38-year-old battled through a left leg injury, which required a medical timeout in the first set, as well as severe heat exhaustion. With temperatures near 30 degrees Celsius and high humidity, Djokovic needed medical attention for his vitals and was visibly exhausted, collapsing onto the court after the 2-hour and 41-minute match. Having previously called the conditions “brutal” (and having vomited in an earlier match), Djokovic struggled to break the world No. 41‘s serve in the long second set before securing two timely breaks to win the decisive third set. He is set to play Zizou Bergs next.
