The China Geological Survey (CGS) has finished generating 4,600 geochemical maps for Saudi Arabia, worth an estimated $260 million, to guide the Kingdom’s mineral exploration efforts.
The geoscience project, which began five years ago, was discussed at the 4th Belt and Road International Geophysical Conference. Key achievements include not only the geochemical maps but also the creation of 75 geological maps (at a 1:100,000 scale) that have pinpointed new mineral deposits. The project also saw the establishment of Saudi Arabia’s first digital core repository and substantial progress in geological mapping and database design.
Separately, the CEO of the Saudi Geological Survey, Abdullah Al-Shamran, confirmed that the Kingdom is currently developing a 3D visualization system to map its subsurface resources and hazards, a project expected to be finished by 2030.
