Timothée Chalamet emerged victorious in one of the Golden Globes’ most hotly contested races on Sunday, winning best actor in a musical or comedy for his portrayal of a professional table tennis player in Marty Supreme.
The actor beat out a field that included Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney and other high-profile nominees at the ceremony in Beverly Hills, California. Accepting the award, Chalamet praised the strength of the category and reflected on previous years when he left the Globes empty-handed, saying those experiences made the win especially meaningful.
DiCaprio had been widely tipped as a frontrunner for his role in the dark comedy One Battle After Another, the most-nominated film of the evening. His co-star Teyana Taylor won best supporting actress in a motion picture.
The Golden Globes also introduced a new podcast category, which was won by Good Hang with Amy Poehler. Poehler said the show aimed to bring warmth and humour to an often harsh world. Korean-American singer Ejae accepted the award with an encouraging message about perseverance.
Comedian Nikki Glaser hosted the ceremony, joking that the Globes were “the most important thing happening in the world right now” and delivering playful barbs at the stars in attendance, including a self-deprecating apology after a quip about DiCaprio.
In the film categories, One Battle After Another is competing for best musical or comedy alongside Marty Supreme and black comedy Bugonia. The best drama race includes Jay Kelly, starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler, as well as titles such as Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, supernatural thriller Sinners, and Hamnet.
The Golden Globes mark one of the first major awards events of the 2026 Hollywood season, ahead of the Academy Awards in March. While Globe voters do not participate in Oscar voting, a win can boost a film’s visibility during awards season.
Winners are selected by more than 300 entertainment journalists. The voting body was expanded in recent years, alongside reforms introduced to address past concerns over ethics and diversity.
