Apple has officially entered the foldable market with the launch of the iPhone Duo, a $1,999 passport-sized device that expands into a 7.6-inch dual display. Led by newly appointed CEO John Ternus in Apple’s most significant hardware overhaul since the iPhone X, the presentation positioned the Duo as a premium productivity tool powered by the new A20 Pro chip and Apple’s in-house C2 modem. Featuring a titanium chassis, on-device AI integration focused on data privacy, and multi-window multitasking, the device aims to transition foldables from a niche category into a mainstream standard. Market analysts from IDC project that Apple could secure a 40 percent share of the lucrative foldable segment by the end of next year, posing a direct threat to dominant incumbents like Samsung in North America and Huawei in China.
Alongside the flagship foldable, Apple introduced its non-folding iPhone 18 Pro lineup alongside updates across its wearables ecosystem. The iPhone 18 Pro models feature enhanced AI processing capabilities and debut “Apple Reference Image” technology, a new authentication standard designed to verify photo authenticity and combat AI-generated media manipulations. Apple also unveiled the Apple Watch Series 12, the Watch Ultra 4, and entry-level AirPods equipped with active noise cancellation. The strategic presence of key component suppliers, including Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, highlighted the growing necessity for advanced high-performance memory chips as Apple continues expanding its on-device artificial intelligence capabilities across its hardware portfolio.
