Devotees of the K-pop group BTS in Taiwan are seeking the intervention of Yue Lao, the Taoist deity of romance and matrimony, hoping that divine matchmaking will help them secure tickets for the band’s upcoming performances in Kaohsiung. Fans explain that because securing seats for the group’s concerts is notoriously difficult, turning to the God of Love has become a popular strategy, viewed as a unique form of matchmaking. Over the weekend, a gathering of K-pop enthusiasts assembled at Taipei’s Bangka Longshan Temple, arranging a selection of snacks in the group’s signature purple color alongside official merchandise, venue seating charts, and personal wish lists on a traditional altar. The practice originally gained traction on social media a few years ago, driven by the belief that Yue Lao will employ his legendary red thread of fate to link fans with their desired concert seats.
Participants express deep confidence in the ritual, noting that unwavering belief is key to making these wishes reality. The upcoming concerts represent a major milestone for the local fanbase, as the full lineup of BTS has not performed together in Taiwan since 2018. Following the announcement of their highly anticipated world tour in early 2026, the group is scheduled to play three consecutive shows in the southern Taiwanese city on November 19, 21, and 22.
