“The Pitt” and “The Studio” Secure Major Television Awards at the Golden Globes

At the Golden Globes on Sunday, HBO Max’s medical drama “The Pitt” took home the prize for best drama series, while Apple TV’s Hollywood satire “The Studio” was named best comedy. “The Pitt,” which highlights the intense conditions in American emergency rooms, also earned a best actor award for Noah Wyle. During his acceptance speech, Wyle thanked healthcare workers and credited his success to a family that prioritized the arts and curiosity. Show creator R. Scott Gemmill added that storytelling serves as a vital bridge in a deeply divided world.

In the comedy categories, Seth Rogen won best actor for his role in “The Studio,” a series centered on a film executive managing the friction between corporate interests and creativity. Rogen joked about his win, referencing an episode of the show that featured a fictional version of the awards ceremony. Other significant winners included Jean Smart, who was named best female actor in a comedy for “Hacks,” and the series “Adolescence.” Notably, “The White Lotus” failed to win any awards despite leading the television field with six nominations.

The ceremony took place under a revamped organizational structure following the 2023 acquisition of the Golden Globe assets by Eldridge Industries and Dick Clark Productions. This transition led to the dissolution of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which had previously faced intense scrutiny over its ethics and lack of representation. The voting body has since been expanded to include 300 journalists from 75 different countries, achieving 60% racial and ethnic diversity among its members.
