New Trump Gold Card offers expedited U.S. residency for a $1 million contribution

President Donald Trump’s administration on Wednesday formally rolled out the “Trump Gold Card” visa program, offering a fast-track residency option for non-U.S. citizens—at a significant cost.

Through the new website, Trumpcard.gov, applicants can pay a $15,000 Department of Homeland Security processing fee to begin the expedited review. After background checks, they must then provide a $1 million “contribution” or “gift” to obtain the visa, which functions similarly to a Green Card by granting the right to live and work in the United States.

Trump described the program as “basically a Green Card, but much better,” telling reporters it offers a stronger pathway for “great people.”

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said roughly 10,000 individuals had already pre-registered and predicted the program could generate billions of dollars. He argued the initiative would attract high-income individuals who contribute more to the U.S. economy, contrasting them—without evidence—with “average” Green Card holders whom he claimed earn less and rely more on public assistance.

The Gold Card comes as the Trump administration continues broad efforts to restrict immigration, both legal and illegal. Positioned as a counterbalance, the program aims to raise revenue for the U.S. Treasury, mirroring Trump’s claims about the effectiveness of his tariff policies.

Lutnick added that a corporate version of the Gold Card is available as well, allowing companies to secure expedited visas for employees in exchange for a $2 million contribution per worker.
