As intensifying Typhoon Bualoi—the tenth storm to hit Vietnam this year—barrels toward the country, Vietnam has mobilized an enormous response, including 100,000 military personnel to help evacuate 250,000 people. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for the “highest level of readiness” as the storm, currently generating () winds at sea, is expected to make landfall on Sunday.
The meteorology agency warns that Bualoi is an unusually fast-moving, strong storm capable of triggering multiple disasters, including flooding, landslides, and coastal inundation.
In preparation, four domestic airports have been shut down, and all fishing vessels have been called back to harbor. Authorities are overseeing mass evacuations, including over 210,000 residents in Da Nang and 32,000 people in coastal areas near Hue. Tragically, the storm has already caused a vessel to sink off Quang Tri province, leaving three fishermen missing (eight others were rescued). The typhoon previously killed 10 people and left 10 missing after hitting the Philippines on Friday.
