Dubai-based DP World to establish new special economic zone in Oman

DP World to Lead Development of New Special Economic Zone in Oman’s Al-Rawda

Dubai-based logistics giant DP World will spearhead the development of the first phase of a new special economic zone (SEZ) in Al-Rawda, Oman, according to a statement from the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) on the X platform.

OPAZ has signed a 50-year agreement with Mahdah Development Company—represented by DP World—for the development and operation of the initial 14 square kilometres of the SEZ. The full zone will span a total area of 56.8 square kilometres.

The strategic project aims to strengthen trade connectivity between Oman’s Sohar Port and Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port. Oman’s ASYAD Group will be responsible for managing the zone’s land port.

The first phase of the SEZ will focus on attracting investment across several key sectors, including pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, logistics and warehousing, manufacturing, food and plastics, mining, and service-based industries.

As part of the usufruct agreement, Mahdah Development Company has the option to expand the developed area up to 25 square kilometres, subject to the submission of a comprehensive development plan.
