Russia has not informed NASA that it plans to leave the space station

WASHINGTON, July 26 (Reuters) - A senior NASA source told Reuters that despite Russia's new space commander claiming on Tuesday that Moscow intends to leave the 20-year-old orbital collaboration, Moscow has not informed NASA of its intention to leave the International Space Station in 2024.

The decision to leave the space station after 2024 has already been decided, according to Yuri Borisov, the newly appointed director general of Russia's space agency, who spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

According to NASA's space station director Robyn Gatens, the Russians have not expressed any such plan as required by the station's international agreement. Gatens told Reuters at an ISS conference in Washington, "Nothing formal yet.”We have only recently seen that as well. No formal communication has been received."
